How to read a licence on the Gaming Commission register
One regulator, one register, and it covers the whole country. Reading an entry takes about two minutes once you know what the parts mean, and it is the cheapest check available to anyone about to deposit.
Who licenses what
The Gaming Commission of Ghana licenses gambling nationally. Sports betting and online casino are separate categories, so a company can hold one, both, or one while selling the other.
Licences run to a calendar year. Premier Bet's sports betting licence was issued on 1 January 2026 and expires on 31 December 2026, which is the shape of every current entry we read. A licence that was valid in 2024 tells you nothing about a bet placed today.
The number, and what its letters mean
The numbers in circulation follow a pattern. GCSB opens a sports betting number and GCCA opens a casino one, then two digits for the year of issue, then a serial. Wiwi Casino publishes GCCA26K5423L and no sports betting number at all, which matches a site with no sportsbook. Betway is the case that shows why you check rather than trust a list: two numbers circulate for it on affiliate pages and two more contradict them, while Betway's own terms name the Gaming Commission as its regulator and state no number anywhere. This page will not repeat any of the four.
The pattern is a reading aid rather than proof. The register itself prints no numbers, so every number below comes from the operator. Two of the operators we researched publish none we could confirm anywhere.
| Bookmaker | Entries on the register | Number the operator publishes |
|---|---|---|
| MSport | 2 | GCSB26R0957A, GCCA26S3348H |
| Wiwi Casino | 1 | GCCA26K5423L |
| Bangbet | 1 | GCSB23Q3049C |
| SportyBet | 1 | 0000237 |
| Soccabet | 1 | no number we could confirm |
| Betway | 2 | no number we could confirm |
| betPawa | 2 | GCSB26T7712J, GCCA26P3312N |
| 1xBet | 2 | GCSB25H4885G, GCCA25E0038Z |
| BetFox | 1 | GCSB2401388B |
| Premier Bet | 1 | GCSB20W4367N |
| 22Bet | 1 | GCSB23P0182X |
| Betwinner | 1 | no number we could confirm |
| Melbet | 1 | GCSB25J8590V |
When the operator contradicts itself
SportyBet's Ghanaian footer carries 0000237. Its own Google Play listing carries GCSB24P3065A and GCCA24F8201D. Both come from SportyBet. We publish the footer number and say plainly that a second set exists, because choosing one quietly would hide a disagreement the reader should see.
22Bet is the other case and it is handled differently. Three numbers circulate for it on affiliate pages and none could be matched to a 22Bet source or to the register, so this site publishes none. A number nobody can check is not evidence, and copying one is exactly how a fabrication turns into a fact.
The register and the product do not always agree
BetFox appears under sports betting only while its site runs slots, live tables and virtuals. Soccabet is the same, with a full casino and Aviator behind a sports betting entry. Melbet also appears under sports betting only, and there the product agrees with the register: melbet.com.gh carries no casino at all, the crash entrance returns a 404 and the word Aviator appears nowhere in the page.
A difference in scope is not an accusation and we do not publish it as one. It matters for one practical reason. If something goes wrong, knowing which category your bet sits in tells you which licence the complaint is actually about.
Checking one yourself
Five steps, in this order.
- Open the Gaming Commission's own site rather than a search result, and find the published register there.
- Search the licensee company, not the brand. Soccabet trades as Wingatebet Limited, betPawa as Choplife Gaming Limited, BetFox as BF Entertainment Ltd, Premier Bet as Solidere Ghana Limited, Betway as Sports Betting Group Ghana LTD and 1xBet as Clickwell Ghana Limited.
- Check the category. Sports betting and online casino are counted separately, and holding one says nothing about the other.
- Check the year. An expired entry and no entry come to the same thing for money staked today.
- Compare it against the operator's own footer. Where the two disagree, that is worth knowing before you deposit rather than after.
What a licence does not tell you
It does not say how fast you are paid, whether support answers at nine in the evening, or whether the offer terms are fair. Mozzart Bet held two Ghanaian licences in 2022 and stopped accepting Ghanaian players on 1 January 2024. The licence was never the problem.
Stale text is its own small signal. MSport's pages still credit the National Gaming Board and still say Vodafone Cash, and both names are out of date. That is not a licensing failure. It does tell you when somebody last read the page.
Licence numbers and licensee names were read from operator sites, their app store listings and the Commission's register on 8 August 2026.

Asked about this
Is online betting legal in Ghana?
Yes, where the operator holds a current licence from the Gaming Commission of Ghana. The legal age is eighteen and it is the same everywhere in the country.
Where do I find the register?
On the Gaming Commission of Ghana's own website. Use it rather than a licence badge in a website footer, because the badge is published by the party it describes.
A bookmaker will not pay me. What now?
Put the complaint to the operator in writing first and keep the reference. If that fails, the Gaming Commission runs the complaints route, and non-compliance is stated to affect an operator's licence renewal. Our responsible gambling page sets out both steps.
Does a licence mean my money is safe?
It means the operator is answerable to somebody in Ghana and can lose the right to trade here. It is a floor rather than a guarantee, and it says nothing about payout speed or support.
